Decentraland X Account Hacked for Fake $MANA Airdrop Scam

On September 19, blockchain security firm PeckShield tweeted a security incident regarding Decentraland’s official X (formerly Twitter). PeckShield pointed out that the account has been hacked and is currently used to promote a phishing scam.

The attackers are using a link on Decentraland’s X account to spread a fake MANA token airdrop. This link directs users to a phishing site that poses as a MANA token-selling platform. However, those who link their wallet to this site will have their money stolen from them.

PeckShield has advised all the followers of Decentraland to refrain from engaging with the hacked X account. They advise that one should not click on any links or interact with any content that is associated with the scam.

Instead, users should wait for official information from Decentraland’s official social media accounts before making any moves. Such social media hacking is now on the rise. On the same day as this event, on September 18, several large social media accounts were also targeted by phishing attacks.

Be cautious and make sure you are receiving information from credible sources to guard your digital property against these emerging threats.
