One of the core Ethereum developers, Eric Conner has announced his departure from the Ethereum community days after Vitalik Buterin decides to bring major changes in the Ethereum Foundation (EF) leadership team.
Eric has worked as a core Ethereum developer for more than a decade and his involvement in developing Ethereum’s DeFi ecosystem is significant. His notable contribution includes co-authoring EIP-1559 which changed the structure of transaction fees on a fundamental basis.
“Literally just around that moment, Vitalik Buterin gave his talk about launching Ethereum in Miami and I was hooked. It spoke to me on a level 100x that of bitcoin,” Connor said in his X post.
The decision to leave the Ethereum community comes days after Vitalik Buterin shares his take on Ethereum Foundation leadership changes. Hinting towards potential reasons for his departure, Eric cites that he has lost passion for Ethereum due to upper management’s differentiated vision.
“I never cared much about the EF as I thought Vitalik was a genius and great wartime leader,” Connor said, adding “he’d let core dev meetings occur on their own but step in when needed, sticking to the vision. As VB took a step back, the opaqueness and general disconnect from the community grew.”
Eric has now joined FreysaAI, which is an AI agent on Base blockchain, designed to protect crypto prize pools.
