Financial Expert Compares Buying Bitcoin Now to 1999 Amazon

Bitcoin Magazine

Prominent financial advisor Ric Edelman has drawn a parallel between purchasing bitcoin today and investing in Amazon back in 1999.

During a Thursday interview with Bitcoin Magazine TV, the founder of Edelman Financial Engines also shared his expectation that the leading cryptocurrency’s price will reach $500,000 by the year 2030.

Recently, the top cryptocurrency traded at nearly $76,522 following a 1% increase over the preceding day. The digital coin experienced its strongest rally in years in August, rebounding after months of trading below $65,000—a level far below its October peak of $126,080.

“Back in 1999, people were arguing over whether to invest in Amazon,” Edelman noted. “Nobody has that argument — everybody owns it, and Bitcoin will have the same trajectory in the future.”

Addressing the asset’s valuation, Edelman explained that while he anticipates bitcoin hitting $500,000, it could climb even higher if investors ultimately allocate more than 1% of their assets to the cryptocurrency.

As Edelman stated: “If everybody in the world allocates 1% of assets to bitcoin, that translates to a $500,000 price — it’s really that simple.”

“You don’t have to go to a website and look at that arithmetic, and there’s nothing that I see that’s going to interfere [with my price prediction] — in fact, just the opposite.”

“I have a feeling we’re going to discover that my prediction is wrong on two counts: one, it’ll be more than $500,000, and second, it’ll probably be before 2030,” he added.

As a noted American author and financial advisor, Edelman has maintained a long-standing advocacy for bitcoin. He shared with BMTV that he faced mockery when introducing the leading cryptocurrency to others back in 2013.

“I was booed off many a stage in 2013, 2014, trying to convey to my colleagues in the financial services field to pay attention to [Bitcoin],” he remarked, noting that most traditional finance professionals now at least recognize that the asset is “here to stay.”
