Parker Lewis: Bitcoin Will Settle 100% of Global Payments
Parker Lewis maintains that Bitcoin is destined to handle 100% of global payments, asserting that the current credit system is buckling beneath a staggering $107 trillion debt burden. The author of Gradually, Then Suddenly sat down with Grace Remington and Sean Hagan to discuss how the bank failures of 2023 persuaded him that payments represent the most vital component of Bitcoin. During the conversation, he highlights how merchants fuel adoption by bypassing 3% credit card fees and eliminating chargebacks, while noting that the dollar denomination will eventually lose relevance. From a macroeconomic perspective, Lewis contends that the Federal Reserve and the Treasury have relinquished command over the long end of the yield curve. He points to 7%+ mortgage rates and corporate refinancing costs hovering between 9% and 10% as the initial pressure points, leaving currency expansion as the sole remaining exit strategy. Additionally, he analyzes why corporate Bitcoin treasury models and perpetual preferred shares ultimately fail to align with investor interests.
