Jack Dorsey’s Block Gives One Bitcoin to ComplexCon Attendee

Jack Dorsey’s company Block demonstrated its strong commitment to bitcoin adoption by awarding a full 1 BTC to a fortunate visitor at the recent ComplexCon event in Los Angeles.

The financial technology company participated in the annual Complex Networks gathering over the weekend, aiming to introduce newcomers to the top cryptocurrency using what it described as “culture, shopping and play.”

Operating through its Cash App brand, Block set up a booth featuring a fishing-themed game named “Lightning Lake,” which gave participants the chance to earn fractional amounts of bitcoin.

However, one participant walked away with an entire coin, which was valued at $85,000 at the time of the win.

“We wanted bitcoin to feel approachable, tangible and fun,” Maria Pesce, Head of Bitcoin Marketing at Block, told Bitcoin Magazine.

“People could go from never having used bitcoin to paying with it, all in a trip around the lake.”

She added: “At Block, our goal is to make bitcoin everyday money, and ComplexCon gave us a chance to introduce bitcoin to a new audience through culture, shopping, and play.”

Block has a history of championing bitcoin integration across its ecosystem. Cash App lets users buy, send, and receive bitcoin, while Square point-of-sale systems support the cryptocurrency via the Lightning Network.

Earlier this month, the NYSE-traded company launched a new advertising campaign designed to encourage everyday usage of the leading cryptocurrency as a medium of exchange.

Dorsey—who departed Twitter in 2021 to concentrate on payments and Bitcoin expansion—has consistently stated his vision for the digital asset to function as global currency and everyday money.

The activation at ComplexCon even drew celebrity attention, with North West (daughter of Kanye West) and rapper French Montana spotted visiting Lightning Lake to try their hand at fishing for bitcoin.
