JPMorgan Chase’s asset management division has stated that although bitcoin remains overly volatile for strategic investor portfolios, the cryptocurrency has the potential to outperform the majority of asset classes across the coming decade.
Within its 2027 “Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions” publication, the financial institution noted that while price volatility for the leading cryptocurrency has decreased, it remains “premature to consider BTC as a diversifier in a balanced portfolio.”
As one of the globe’s largest banks, JPMorgan has previously leveraged Bitcoin’s foundational blockchain technology to launch its proprietary offerings. Nevertheless, Jamie Dimon, the multinational’s chief executive officer, maintains a long-standing skepticism regarding Bitcoin.
“BTC currently lacks a clear role as a diversifier in balanced portfolios due to unstable correlations to other asset classes,” the document explained.
The publication further noted: “We see bitcoin as a speculative asset and a hedge against monetary easing.”
Additionally, the report featured a chart indicating a baseline projection where bitcoin returns surpass those of equities, fixed income, and gold, though it cautioned that price swings could undermine its portfolio function.
“But should volatility continue to decline and correlations to other asset stabilize, this may evolve in the future, particularly as regulation becomes clearer and liquidity and price discovery continue to improve,” the authors stated.
At present, the analysis concluded, bitcoin “mostly trades like a high beta risk asset that tracks global money supply growth.”
Adoption of bitcoin has grown across Wall Street following the Securities and Exchange Commission’s authorization of exchange-traded funds in 2024.
Furthermore, U.S. President Donald Trump’s supportive stance on cryptocurrency has contributed to the shift, as regulators under his administration have adopted a considerably more accommodating oversight posture since 2025.
JPMorgan Chase head Jamie Dimon has notoriously criticized Bitcoin previously, describing it as a “hyped-up fraud” and a “pet rock,” while asserting that its sole utility is criminal activity.
Even so, he has commended the cryptocurrency’s core technology and spoken favorably about related assets such as stablecoins.
