Swiss Bitcoin Pay takes servers offline following cyber attack

Another day, another data breach.

Following a security incident on Monday, non-custodial bitcoin payment processor Swiss Bitcoin Pay announced that it was forced to temporarily take its servers offline.

Based in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, the firm confirmed that customer funds remain secure. However, it believes the compromise may have exposed customer email addresses, bitcoin addresses, IBANs, transaction records, and hashed passwords.

This incident arrives amid a broader wave of security breaches affecting fintech and bitcoin companies. Last week, Revolut revealed that an unauthorized party acquired customer passports, driver’s licenses, verification selfies, and transaction histories after submitting fraudulent requests using a legitimate government agency’s email domain.

Additionally, leading hardware wallet maker Trezor warned last week that a breach at its third-party newsletter marketing platform has resulted in criminals targeting customers with phishing attacks.

“A malicious user has likely gained access to Swiss Bitcoin Pay’s internal systems … As a precaution, we are temporarily shutting down our servers while we investigate and secure our infrastructure,” Swiss Bitcoin Pay stated on Monday.

The business further noted, “User funds are safe, and any amounts owed to users will be fully returned.”

Swiss Bitcoin Pay did not immediately reply to a request for comment from Bitcoin Magazine.

The platform enables businesses to easily and quickly accept Bitcoin payments through both on-chain transactions and the Lightning Network.

Throughout 2026, criminals have increasingly targeted consumer data. In January, scammers obtained customer data through crypto wallet Ledger’s payment processor, Global-e, to distribute phishing emails.

Furthermore, crypto wallet provider SafePal reported a data breach last month involving unauthorized access to the order details of roughly 39,798 customers, which included personal details like names, addresses, and purchase histories.
