Bitcoin Dips Briefly Before Ignoring Fed Chief Inflation Remarks

Bitcoin Magazine

Bitcoin experienced a brief dip before recovering after Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh delivered his inaugural major address as head of the U.S. central bank, noting that officials have “more work to do” to combat inflation.

The premier cryptocurrency was recently changing hands at $79,474 after bottoming out at $78,630 and subsequently rebounding rapidly.

Historically, Bitcoin performs well during periods of low interest rates, yet the Federal Reserve has hesitated to reduce borrowing expenses due to persistent inflation within the world’s largest economy.

“But on the price-stability side of our mandate, the numbers are more concerning,” Warsh stated following his remarks on employment.

He further noted: “We must be confident that underlying inflation is moving to our objective, clearly and at sufficient speed. Otherwise, we have work to do.”

In previous instances, Bitcoin has fallen when the Federal Reserve signals that inflation remains elevated, as this diminishes the likelihood of interest rate reductions. In the wake of Warsh’s remarks, market participants estimated a 50% probability of a September rate hike.

Nevertheless, Bitcoin appeared to shake off the address, at least temporarily.

The cryptocurrency began a strong upward movement last week following an announcement by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent that the department plans to double the scale of its long-dated bond buybacks.

That development drove yields downward while causing the U.S. dollar to weaken, which in turn propelled non-yielding assets such as gold and Bitcoin higher.

Favorable regulatory developments also provided support for the coin: President Donald Trump described the long-anticipated crypto Clarity Act as a “very, very powerful” measure last week, encouraging legislators to pass it.

The anticipated legislation aims to create a regulatory structure that separates digital assets into securities, commodities, or payment stablecoins—a policy framework that the cryptocurrency sector has persistently requested.

On Friday, the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is hosting its yearly conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, bringing together central bankers, Federal Reserve representatives, policymakers, and academics to converse about “Financial Innovation: Implications for Payments and Policy.”

Based on information from the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City website, the conference this year will examine how “recent years have seen a dramatic increase in innovation in financial intermediation and payments,” which encompasses emerging innovations like “cryptocurrencies and stablecoins.”
